My name is James Ludlow. I’m a husband, father, computer programmer, board gamer, and disc golfer in Minneapolis, MN.
Programming
The short version of my resume is as follows.
- 2007-present: Independent computer programming consultant. Shifting gears, I started working on smaller projects. Focused mainly on Ruby, with some Java here and there.
- 1999-2007: Computer programming consultant for BORN, and Fujitsu after they bought BORN, in Minneapolis, MN. Worked on many enterprise web applications, and some smaller ones. Focused mainly on Java, with some C++ thrown in occasionally.
- 1997-1999: Engineer at IBM’s hard disk drive lab in Rochester, MN. At one point I had most of the SCSI specs memorized, with some FC-AL to boot. Now, I look at HDD’s as black boxes that I can plug in and turn on.
- 1997: BS in Electrical Engineering – Michigan Tech. University
Board Gaming
I’ve been playing euro-style board games since I was first introduced to The Settlers of Catan in 1996. I’ve played tons of euros since then, but these days I prefer economic games, 18xx variants, and civilization building. There’s also the matter of the 300+ times I’ve played Race for the Galaxy, with no end in sight to that obsession.
Fitting in with none of the above, I play Go a lot, but never play it well. You can find me as Bray on KGS.
Disc Golfing
After eight years of playing Ultimate, I switched to disc golf in 2001. I’m a solid “middle of the pack” player in the Advanced Amateur division. The Twin Cities is a fantastic area for disc golf. My current favorites are Bryant Lake, Kaposia, and Hyland Hills.
Family
My wife, Tina, and I have two beautiful daughters — ages five and one.
